Murfreesboro Art League Newsletter May 2012
We have two REALLY important dates to remember this month. This Friday(tomorrow), we will all be picking up our pieces at the Rotunda from 2-4. If you are willing, we would like to add your work to our pieces at our gallery for the big “Taste of Art” event on May 11. If you cannot pick up your pieces, Claire or I will be transporting them to the gallery at 4. (I have bubble wrap and towels to cushion them.) If you can help move them, that would be even better!
Speaking of the “Taste of Art:” It will be the following Friday, May 11 from 7-9 pm. Cost is only $10, and gallery members get in free, unless you can afford the amount as a donation, of course! We need: a) ART WORKS and b)workers. Please have your paintings, photos, and/or sculptures to the gallery either this weekend during open hours or at Mon night’s class. Please remember to bring some of your BEST works, since we want this to be a fabulous show. We will also be accepting matted works in plastic sleeves or shrink wrapped, in case patrons want to buy things on a slightly cheaper level. On Friday at 4:30, we need people to help decorate and set up. If you have any WHITE Christmas lights, please bring those, too. If you can come early at 3 pm, Katie needs a couple of people to help with food prep. We also need people who can help at the end (9-10pm) to help with clean-up. We would also appreciate any painting or basket of items you can supply for our silent auction. Most of our money for the evening will be made through this, since our cost of admittance is so low.
REMEMBER: All art to be hung in the gallery must have a frame or be gallery wrapped canvas with edges painted. It must also have a wire for hanging, because our hooks are heavy and won’t fit on those saw tooth things or most holes in frames. We cannot hang the hook directly on the wood, as was shown when a piece fell this past week.
Thanks go out to Katie Plummer, Mark Jackson, Carol Berning, and Suzanne LeBeau for helping at the symphony last month. We had rave reviews.
Also, thanks go out to the numerous people who helped with our opening weekend of Cannonsburgh. It was a huge success. Thanks Katie for the goodies! Yum. If you missed them, come to the “Taste of Art” event, where she will be catering.
Claire will be unable to work the gallery on Sat, May 5 and 12 due to prior commitments. We need some folks who are willing to do the morning (10-1) and/or afternoon (1-4) shifts on those days. Please RSVP to let us know if you can help. We still need help on Sun, May 13, too.
The May Linebaugh Library artist of the month will be Debbie Haggard. Come by and see her oils in a variety of subjects.
Get your pencils ready! Carol Nesvik is teaching sketching in various mediums on May 7, 14, and 21. You can use pencils, colored pencils and/or charcoal. See supply list attached. Our May meeting will be short and will be held on the evening of May 21. There will be NO meeting on May 28 for the Memorial Day holiday.
