Fixing the problem AND a few things I missed from the newsletter

Okie dokie... I found out what was wrong with my links.  The card I had said "dot COM," but it was supposed to be a "dot ORG.
Here's the real link to the Studio Tour site.  Check it out!  The artisans are fabulous!
http://www.artstudiotour.org/#roster

Also, I forgot to say for Phyllis's class in drawing, she wants you to bring an eraser as well as a board, easel, or sturdy backing to put the paper on.

Kathee Claiborne of the Attic School http://www.theatticartschool.com/ will be out artist of the month at the Linebaugh Library.  Go see what she has on display!

At this time, we do not have anyone running for the offices of President and Secretary.  These are very important jobs for the running of the organization. The nominating committee will be calling around.  If you are unable to work the gallery on weekends, maybe becoming an officer can be your input to help our club thrive! We all must work together if this is to work. Elections are at the next meeting on Nov. 24.

correction

Sorry, y'all - but BOTH of the links that are on the card for the studio tour take you to a studio tour in DELEWARE!  Ignore them if you got the e-mail.  I will edit the post and try to get some better information!

November events

Wilson Bank Oktoberfest, Cannonsburgh's Harvest Days, and the Family Fun Day were lots of fun.  See updated calendar on the side for upcoming events.  Nov. newsletter will be posted soon.

Phyllis Razo will be teaching drawing techniques this month.  She has asked us to bring a variety of pencils (hardness 4b, 2b hb, 2h, and 4h if you have them.) Also bring a largish drawing pad for best results (9x12 or above is best.)

Don't forget that we will be a part of the Studio Tour in Murfreesboro this year! (Sorry, but both links I have for them are wrong.)

Elections will be NEXT business meeting in November.

Christmas Party will be on Mon, Dec 16.

Can you help?

We need help setting up for the Symphony show next Thursday at 5 pm!  If you can help, contact Suzanne at suzanne.lebeau@att.net ASAP.  I don't want to cancel this, but will be working.  I can't get there until 6.  We usually get free symphony tickets, too.

Also, we decided to go ahead with part of our renovations this week, while the paintings are down from the summer show.  We have painted the storage area and moved several unused pieces of furniture out.  We primed on Wed, and will paint on Friday.  Please let Phyllis know if you can help, so she can let you know the time (afternoon or evening) and if we will continue on the weekend. September classes

Don't forget Mark Jackson's acrylic classes start tonight and continue on the 16th and 23rd.  All Monday night classes run from 7-9, but get there a little early to get things set up.  Here's Mark's supplies - below.

Beginning Monday, September 9th Mark Jackson will be teaching acrylic classes. He has asked us to bring the following:

Canvases: three 8x10s

Paints:
Cadmium White
Ultramarine Blue
Cobalt Blue
Burnt Umber
Burnt Sienna
Cadmium Yellow
Cadmium Red
Yellow Ochre
Phthalo Green (probably what I have will do the whole class)

Brushes: they can be old watercolor brushes or old (clean) oil brushes.
Just a small assortment of flats and rounds.
3/4" flat
1/2" flat
#2 round
#6 bristle fan

Pencil, Kneaded Eraser, Transfer Paper, Scotch Tape, Paper Towels, Spray Bottle, Trash Bag

Something to put your paints on.

I use a 12" x 20" x 2" porcelain pan.  When I am through painting for the day I can slip it into a trash bag and fold it down over the end and my paint does not dry out and I am not putting out new paint every time I start. As of this evening I have paint in my pan wet for over 3 weeks.

July newsletter -see oil contest below

Murfreesboro Art League Newsletter July, 2013
Howdy people!  It’s been a long time.  Nanette is out of town, so I’ll be sending this for July. –Suz-
If you missed the last meeting, it was an exciting one.  We got accepted into the Stone’s River Crafter’s Association.  That is the group that does the studio tour each fall.  All MAL members will be able to put pieces up to be judged (soon – contact us ASAP if this interests you!  We need to know by mid August!)  5 or 6 members will be juried into the show.  We will also have several crafters using our tables.  This is a huge honor, since very few 2-d artists are accepted into the show.
A big thank you goes out to all the folks who helped with Uncle Dave Macon Days.  We had between 500 and 1000 each day for 3 days and made several sales.
Art camp went well.  We had 15 kids.
Phyllis is resuming her Friday watercolor classes.  They are from 9-noon each Friday for $25. If you are interested, contact Phyllis Razo at
This next Monday, July 29, will be our Eatin’ Meetin’ with special guest Eric Snyder from Todd Gallery at MTSU, who will help us evaluate how to improve our gallery.  Bring finger foods and some of your latest works to show off.
Karen Brackman will be teaching mixed media at the August classes.  These require advanced registration, so please sign up early.  You can contact NanetteSupplies for the classes are as follows:

We will be switching the gallery out for the fall and winter show on the following dates:  Aug 17, 18, 24, and 25.
We will NOT be meeting on Aug 26 due to a “Game Night” at Cannonsburgh that evening.  We’ll let you know if we need to help at that event AND if we have to re-schedule our business meeting.
Cannonsburgh is having their huge yard sale on Aug 24, from 7-1.  We can set up on the porch (in the shade!)  All proceeds go to MAL.  If you want your own booth, they are $10 and you keep your proceeds.  Please price your own stuff.  We’ll meet at 5 on Fri to bring a load or you can bring it in the morning at about 5:3—6, but I don’t know how easy it will be to get in.
Emery’s Fine Art Gallery is hosting an oil painting competition.  It is to be 20 x 24 oil on canvas.  The subject should be a sunset.  It is due Sept. 1 at his gallery -1601 Memorial Blvd.  He has a client that wants this, so winning will mean you sell your painting.

May, 2013 Newsletter

Pioneer Days at Cannonsburgh will be this Saturday, April 27th from 10am to 5:00pm. Join us!

A Taste of Art will be Friday, May 3 from 6 – 8pm in our Gallery at Cannonsburgh. All are invited. Members, please bring a finger food to share. Invite your family, friends, and neighbors! A silent auction will also be held.

May 6, 13, and 20 Classes:

Come join Jenny Jacobs for an introduction to "Passion Painting"...painting where the goal is free expression, with the emphasis on the the creative process rather than on technique or expertise. The challenge is in expressing yourself, not in learning techniques or following a leader. The beauty in this kind of painting is that it can awaken a wild burst of passion that will not go back to sleep.

We will use only the simple tools of

1) Brushes(bring your own, water friendly assortment)

2) Paper(sheets to be provided to participants....$ 2 sheet)

3) Paint(bring your own....tempera, acrylics, or watercolor)

In this workshop, everyone is a beginner, but passion painting requires monk-like silence and focus. Leave your inner critic at home and come learn to let go in the passion of painting. Call Jenny Jacobs at 615-691-2636 or email tennesseeyellow@gmail.com if you have any questions.

May Exhibits:

Rotunda: the show will hang from May 7 – June 21

Set up is May 7th from 2 to 4pm. Registration for paintings will be filled out when you bring the pieces in to hang. Phyllis will make the list and give to the Rotunda later.

Dues must be paid by the 29th of April.

Opening reception is May 21 from 4:30 – 6:00pm.

We take down the show on June 21st.

Life Care of Hickory Woods show- 4200 Murfreesboro Pike, Antioch, TN – set up will be May 11th from 2 – 4pm. Phyllis will hang the show. Take down date is May 17th from 2 – 4pm. We can view the art any time that week. Please plan on exhibiting a piece of your work.
