July newsletter

Murfreesboro Art League Newsletter – July 2014
July classes: Please note that on July 7, we will have open studio time, which have been averaging 12 people, by the way! Oil pastel lessons with Joabe Andrade will be held on July 14 and 21. We are to bring 2 8x10 canvas BOARDS (not stretched – Each time you go over the stretcher bar, it shows.), a pastel set of medium quality or better if possible, and a sunset picture for inspiration.

The ROTUNDA show was a ton of fun. Phyllis sold one of her paintings (the sunflowers) – CONGRATULATIONS! Take-down was a breeze. We were DONE by 3 pm this time. Woo hoo! The reception was lovely with music, and a few new songs, from our friend Rev. Newsom. Next year, make sure you invite many friends. Word of mouth seems to work best.________________________________________
A special THANK YOU goes out to Moxie Art Supply in Murfreesboro. Local artist Glen Merchant, who owns Moxie’s, let us have our meeting there this past month. After, we had a reception and a chance to check out all the fun supplies for sale at their new location at 302 W Vine St.
Linebaugh library artist of the month:
Thank you to Harry Polny who was our artist of the month. I am unsure at this time who will do it for July.
In other news:
Thank you to people like Katie Plummer who is pro-active about working the weekends. It is a great help to me when people step forward like this, so I don’t have to spend so much time calling and asking people to work! You can also sign up on the calendar at the gallery, so you get the best slots.
Uncle Dave Macon Days – July 11-13
We already have a list of who has said they can help. If you have NOT picked up your tickets yet, please do so THIS weekend OR on Monday night!
ART CAMPS:
Do you know any families with children from 3rd grade and up who would love to learn more about “serious” art? We will have pencil, watercolor, acrylic and colored pencil mediums. We’ll focus on perspective, composition, size/shape comparisons, color mixing and MORE. Each participant will get a sketch book to keep, a snack, and all supplies for only $60/week. (M-F, 9-noon. July 14-18 beginners 3-5th grades, July 21-25 advanced OR 6th grade and up)
Have a happy and safe 4th of July.
