Murfreesboro Art League Newsletter March 2015
Dues are due by the end of March!
Don’t forget that it is time to pay your dues again! If you are currently a member, we respectfully ask that you pay your dues by March. If you cannot come to a meeting or class during that time, please contact our Treasurer, Phyllis Razo so you can work out a plan.
Linebaugh Library artist of the month Bobbie Bittner will be the artist of the month at Linebaugh Library for the month of March. If you have always wanted to show your art, but want to start small, this is the way to do it. The foyer of the library has three glass cases. Ours is the middle one. You would need between 6 big pieces and 9 small ones 8x10 or smaller OR any mix. If you think this is for you, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks!
Art Classes: Some of the art teachers have decided to go with extra classes, so if you are interested, contact them. Mary Miller Veazie has classes on Friday morning and will be starting a new session on March 20, and Gayle Levee will be teaching oil, acrylic or water-mixable oil starting THIS Saturday. Pam and Mary’s classes are full and already in full swing! However, Gayle MIGHT have some spaces, since her class has not started yet. Contact Gayle at 615-833-2480 or email@example.com to schedule participation or for questions. For samples of some of her work, see http://www.gaylelevee.com/galleries.html Susan Elizabeth Jones will be adding her talents to our painting group. Here’s more info if you are on Facebook, or call 615-216-5907 for Susan’s classes.
Let’s support local student artists!
The City Hall Rotunda will be hosting two back-to-back shows. From now until March 13, they are showing the winners from the Rutherford County Schools Arts Competition and from March 17 through May 1 will be the Murfreesboro City Schools Arts Competition with a reception from 4:30-6 on April 9.
ART FESTIVAL opportunity:
Liz gave me info on a festival in Wartrace. The event is taking place on Saturday, June 6th with vendors setting up on Friday the 5th. And we have security for overnight on the 5th so things will be safe. The booth space is 12' x 12' with a cost of $35. The $35 includes two wristbands for admission to the music [which is a $5 per person fee]. We would like to advertise it as an arts/crafts fair also but that depends on how many art/craft vendors I get. That does not count the people who buy stuff at sales and resell it because they are not selling things they have created. We would like to have real artists and crafters. Contact is: Margaret Sulzner <firstname.lastname@example.org
Phyllis has had a piece juried into an art competition. The reception will be on Saturday, March 21, 2015 7:00 – 9:00 PM at at Springhouse Worship and Arts Center in Smyrna. Come on out and vote for the People’s Choice Award.
