June newsletter

Murfreesboro Art League Newsletter June 2015
Wow, what a crazy, busy time of year it is!
June events:
June will be sort of a hodge-podge of classes. Missy Veazie will do one more oil class on June 8th.We’ve had a request for a class on Vincent VanGogh’s “Starry Night,” so Suzanne will do a class on that on Mon, June 15, using the color wheel to show how to match color hue, intensity and value. You may use whatever paints you want and the supplies to go with it. June 22nd will be the business meeting at 7 pm and on June 29th, we’ll have our “Eatin’ Meetin.” For those who don’t know what that is, we’ll bring pot-luck finger foods and bring some of our latest works to show off and/or have them critiqued (if requested.)
Remember: When we signed up for the art league, we promised to help keep it open! Now that it is summer, we will be calling you to see which slot you will work EACH MONTH. (a 3 hour commitment) July will require some people to work 2 or more shifts due to the Uncle Dave Macon Days on July 10, 11, and 12. If you would be able to work those dates, please contact a board member because you need a ticket to enter. We still have openings on all days, especially Fri afternoon!
Artists of the month Claire Smith will be our gallery’s artist of the month. Check out the big wall to see what she’s got in store for us. Phyllis has been chosen as the Linebaugh Library’s artist of the month. Go see her display in their lobby.
Kids’ Art Camp:
We are signing kids up for the camps in July! If you know a youngster who is interested in art, let us know. Price is $60 for a full week of 3 hour sessions from 9-noon. Session 1 (beginners) is July 13-17 and Session 2 (advanced) is July 20-24. All supplies and snacks are provided, and each student gets a sketch pad.
Art Classes: Our outside teachers are in the middle of sessions and /or taking a summer break right now. If you’d like to vastly improve your techniques by signing up for one of the waiting lists, please contact Suzanne.
 GREENWAY ART FESTIVAL:
We will be getting a boot at the Greenway Art Festival. Two other members will be getting tents next to ours, so we will have a little city! If you want to participate, let us know.

Rotunda show:
The big Rotunda Show will be held on July 28-Aug. 28. They are doing things differently this year. We will need you to send the following information to Phyllis as soon as possible (at least by July 1): title of piece, medium, size, artist and price. Please also attach a digital image. If you do not have a way to attach a digital image, bring your pieces to the business meeting or the Eatin’ Meetin’ and we’ll photograph them for you. There will be no pieces added after this date, so be prompt, please.
