Uncle Dave Macon and July newsletter
We've been having a BLAST at the Uncle Dave Macon Days in Murfreesboro. Welcome any new people that picked up the brochure. Take some time to browse the tabs for more info. Here's the July newsletter! If you have any questions, please email me (Suzanne) at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Murfreesboro Art League Newsletter
Uncle Dave Macon Days – NEXT week!
They are doing sign-in differently this year, so you do not need a ticket. Just tell them at the main gate that you are working for the Murfreesboro Art League, and they should have you on a list to cross off. I do NOT have the list here with me, so I’ll have to email that out on Wed. It would be great if you would paint or draw while working, but HONESTLY, so many people talk to you that it is hard to come up with a masterpiece unless you are used to the interruptions.
Murfreesboro Art Crawl
They are trying to get this going this year. A meeting will be held in the Center for the Arts on Wed, July 8.
Artists of the month
Gayle Levee has her art up for the month of July at the gallery. See above for a TINY sample. Lol Ted Stanley will have his paintings in the foyer of the Linebaugh Library.
Kids’ Art Camp:
Please pass this on to any kids you know. We have about 4 open slots in the first week and 7 for the second (advanced) week. We are signing kids up for the camps in July! If you know a youngster who is interested in art, let us know. Price is $60 for a full week of 3 hour sessions from 9-noon. Session 1 (beginners) is July 13-17 and Session 2 (advanced) is July 20-24. All supplies and snacks are provided, and each student gets a sketch pad.
GREENWAY ART FESTIVAL:
We will be getting a boot at the Greenway Art Festival. Two other members will be getting tents next to ours, so we will have a little city! If you want to participate, let us know.
The month of July will be “open studio” time. Come and work on WHATEVER project you are currently creating. Enjoy art chatter and help of fellow artists.
August will be portrait painting with Carol Berning. She will run the classes in oils, but if you are more comfortable with acrylics, you may try that, although they do not blend the same. Week 1 will be finding the PLANES of the head and getting the values right (black and whito only). Week 2 will be finishing that and watching a demonstration, and week 3 will be painting with a live model.
In addition to ivory black and titanium white, recommended palette for the last night includes the following: alizarin crimson or quinacridone rose, cadmium red light, cadmium yellow light, yellow ochre, ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, burnt sienna, burnt umber, raw umber. In addition to your paints, bring at least two panels or canvases, no smaller than 14 x 11, preferably 16 x 12 or 20 x 16; paper towels; ODORLESS mineral spirits; paper towels, a bag for your dirty paper towels; and a palette for mixing paints. Do not tone your canvases prior to the class. YOU MUST REGISTER FOR THIS CLASS, SO PLEASE EMAIL SUZANNE AT mailto:email@example.com.
The big Rotunda Show will be held on July 28-Aug. 28. They are doing things differently this year. We will need you to send the following information to Phyllis as soon as possible (at least by July 13 NOTE change!): title of piece, medium, size, artist and price. Please also attach a digital image. There will be no pieces added after this date, so be prompt, please.
