NOTE: The gallery is open to the public on Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm and open on Monday nights 7:00 to 9:00 pm for classes or open studio!  . The gates will be open for parking in the Cannonsburg Village on Monday nights.  Do not park on any sidewalk. Don’t park on the inner circle, so fire truck can get through. Don’t park past end of garden, so fire truck can get to the hydrant. Thanks!


>The Gallery is open 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday, and 1:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday from May through November.

>Our regular meeting nights are Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm – come join us.  July 31st is our Eatin’ and Greetin’ meeting.  We will have finger foods/snacks.  Anyone is welcome to come check us out!!

> Classes on August 7, 14, and 21 are as follows:  The 7th is colored pencil with Suzanne LeBeau and Kylee Harrison; the 14th is Beverly Hall with watercolor on “Yupo” paper; and the 21st is Phyllis Razo with water soluble colored pencils.  For August 7thwe have colored pencils available at the Gallery but Suzanne recommends bringing colored pencils like “Primacolor” and “Derwent”, two sheets of watercolor or pastel paper (or any sturdy paper like Bristol) that can be taped to an 8 x 10 size. For August 14th   bring watercolors.  Beverly will provide the Yupo paper at a cost per person from $1.00 to $1.50, depending on her cost.  For August 21st, bring watercolor paper and water-soluble colored pencils. 
-Bring paper towels and a hand sharpener (if you have one) for all.
Non-members - 1st class is free and $15.00 afterward!  Come join us!  

>September classes will be on the 11th and 18th.  Mark Jackson will be teaching acrylic painting (theme clouds).  Supplies list on next newsletter.

> October classes will be pastel art with Reba Hinkle.  Supplies will be given later.

>The Gallery paintings have been updated and rearranged. Thanks for bringing your art work.

>The Gallery is participating in the Boro Art Crawl on Friday, August 11th, from 6-9:00 pm and we are ready for it.  Members will demonstrate their art and have finger foods/snacks for guests.  The next Boro Art Crawl is October 13th.  See  http://boroartcrawl.com for more information. 

>July 7 & 8, 2017 were the Uncle Dave Macon Days – Members who worked those days had fun and met lots of people.  Check out the Murfreesboro Art League’s Facebook Page – Pictures were posted of the event.

>Murfreesboro Art League Summer Art Camp 2017 is winding down with the advanced class this week.  It looks like the children were learning perspective!  Something we all struggle with at times.  Thanks Suzanne!

> Murfreesboro Art League members will dress in costume and demonstrate their art for 15 to 25 writers from tourist magazines on Friday, August 25th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Cannonsburg Village.  On Tuesday, August 29th, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, members from the art league will demonstrate their art for a tour of seniors from Dixon.  Both of these events sound like fun – Come and Join Us!

>September 21st is “Autumn in the Oaks” at Oakland Mansion.  Artists will be demonstrating their en plein air skills!  Come and watch our members painting.
>Linebaugh Library will be exhibiting artists work as follows:   August is Suzanne, September is Phyllis, October is Michael, November is Katia, and December is Joe. Go by and look at the display and check out the library.
>Featured Artist at Gallery for August/September will be Katie Froome.

Dates to remember:
·          July at Gallery:  July 31st is our “Eatin & Greetin” night.  Final week of Summer Children’s classes – July 24th-28th.
·          August at Gallery – Classes in colored pencil and watercolor classes on Monday nights, August 7th, 14th and 21st.  Monthly business meeting on August 28th.
·          September at Gallery Closed Sept. 4th for Labor Day.  Acrylic paintings (two on clouds) on September 11th, and 18th – more info later as to supply cost.  Monthly business meeting – Sept. 25th.
·          October at Gallery –Pastel art on October 2nd, 9th and 16th.  Business meeting on Oct. 23rd, and Eatin’ & Greetin’ on Oct. 30th.
Future planned events:
>Future event proposed to find other like-minded art groups to have an event with demonstrations and a silent auction.
>Plein air event being planned for next year sometime in October 2018– paint out and maybe chuck wagons??  Phyllis Razo is in charge of this event planning.

>July 7 & 8, 2017 are the Uncle Dave Macon Days –Friday, July 7th and Saturday, July 8th.  The Gates open on Friday at 11:30 am and Saturday at 9:00 am.  The Gallery will be manned from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm each day.

>Murfreesboro Art League Summer Art Camp 2017 for students going into the 3rd grade and older is scheduled for 9:00 to noon daily with Suzanne LeBeau - COST IS $60 PER WEEK as follows:  Beginner’s classes are July 10-14 and July 17-21.   Advanced classes (prior Summer Art Classes or previous art tutoring required) is July 24-28.  The Deadline for application:  July 5 - Beginners and July 19 - AdvancedSupplies included along with a sketch book for each.   Applications and more information available – contact email:  Suzanne.lebeau@att.net .

 >The Boro Art Crawl is Friday, August 11th, from 6-9:00 pm.  The Deadline for entry except Gallery is July 15th.  See submissions@boroartcrawl.com .  The Gallery is participating in the Boro Art Crawl in August.

>The Great American Race day was on June 26th- at Cannonsburg Historic Village.  Lots of antique cars and people!  The food trucks were great and we had four to six members painting at the Murfreesboro Art League’s Gallery!!! 

>Check out Phyllis, Suzanne and other artist’s exhibits at the Shabby 2 Chic Salon, Spa & Boutique art show at 1265 Rock Springs Rd., Smyrna, TN on July 14th from 6:30 to 10:00 pm. 
>The Murfreesboro Art League building committee will meet at Barnes and Noble at the Avenue on Tuesday, July 11th at 6:30 pm.

> June 5th, 12th, & 19th - Water color art classes with Phyllis Razo on Monday, 7:00 – 9:00 pm.  Please bring to class water colors in tubes (cheap brands ok), rounds and flats in sizes #2, 6, & 8, water color paper (140 lb. cold pressed 9 x 12 –spiral ok– NO CASON – Prefer Strathmore wind power in pink & brown cover), a water soluble pen and paper towels.  Members attend free!!! Non-members 1st class is free and $15.00 afterward!  Come join us!  

 >Rotunda Exhibition (Civic Center site downtown): Exhibit is May 2nd to June 12th; Reception for the eleven artists is June 9th, 6:00-9:00 pm (Mark, Reba, Norma, Ted, Michael, Gloria, Bobbie, Suzanne, Phyllis, Katia, & Beverly). Rev. Newsom may play.  Take down afterwards or morning of June 12th, beginning at 10:00 am.  Postcard advertisements have been printed and are available to those exhibiting at Murfreesboro Art League Gallery.    Murfreesboro Art League Gallery will not be open the night of the Boro Art Crawl. -See postcard advertisement at top of page.
>Crawl the Mall 2017 for Southeast Nashville Artists at the Global Mall:  May 27th from 3:30 to 7:30 pm (if exhibiting, pickup at 7:30 pm promptly.

>The 2nd annual 2017 Smyrna Art Crawl is Friday, June 9th from 5:00 to 9:00 pm.  Drop off is Friday, May 26th or Saturday, May 27th between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm or Sunday, May 28th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Pickup is 9:00 to 9:30 pm after exhibit.

>The Great American Race day is on for June 26th- 10:30 am to 3 pm as requested by Cannonsburg Village.

>July 7 & 8, 2017 are the Uncle Dave Macon Days – anyone wishing to volunteer at the Gallery, please email Suzannelebeau@att.net  within the next few days as only ten spaces out of twenty remain open.  Empty slots are:  three on July 7, Friday from 4-8pm; one on July 8, Saturday from 10am-1pm; two on July 8, Saturday from 1-4 pm; and five on July 8, Saturday from 4-8 pm.

> Come join us at Summer Art Camp in July at the Murfreesboro Art League for rising 3rd graders.  July 10-14 and 17-21 is beginners weeks and July 24-28 is advanced week from 9 to noon. All supplies are included in the cost, along with a sketch book for each participant. >Murfreesboro Art League wants to wish Gloria Ardnt a speedy recovery.
>Life Care Center at Hickory Woods Art exhibit was a good-but participant down.
>Suzanne’s May acrylic classes were fun – they experimented with fluid paint and more!
>The Center for the Arts needs artists to display their art on June 9th, the Boro Art Crawl night.  If interested contact anna@borarts.org .
>Paint & demonstrate for camp at Oakland Mansion (see Mary Beth Neville) -June 7th-12th.

upcoming art shows and deadlines



There are many artsy events coming up! This weekend is the Tennessee Craft Fair out at Centennial Park. It’s too late to ENTER for this one, but it’s fun to go browse! 

Also this Sunday in Murfreesboro is the Mid State Iris Association Show and Photo Contest: PhotographersPlease contact Andrew Buhler, Jr. at 931-552-7157 or andrew.buhler@jostens.com .  Bring your photo entries to the show during the hours when horticulture entries are accepted – Sunday, May 7, 2017, from 7am to 9am, CST, at Riverdale HS in Murfreesboro. This is fun to just go LOOK at the irises they have on display, too!

Then, we have deadlines coming up for several shows if you want to enter some of your art:
Smyrna has their Depot Arts Fest/art crawl on June 9. FREE! The deadline is This Saturday, May 6! http://www.depotdistrictartsfest.com/art-call/

Jerry’s Artarama is sponsoring another “Crawl the Mall” in Antioch.  Fee=$20 for 3. The deadline is actually May 13, not the 9th. http://www.nashville-jerrys.com/community

The Boro Art Crawl for June is accepting art through May 15. http://boroartcrawl.com/submissions/

The Customs House in Clarksville is currently accepting applications for its year-long program of temporary art displays. http://customshousemuseum.org/exhibits/call-to-artists .
