October newsletter

Some of you might have noticed that we did not have a September newsletter.  We are moving from having it published at the end of the month to the beginning, so are skipping Sept.

Murfreesboro Art League Newsletter           October
Please note that our Eatin’ Meetin’ will be cancelled in October because it falls directly on Halloween night.
Our art teacher for the month of October will be Mark Jackson.  He is an acrylic artist who does fabulous western art and cows.  We will do a tractor in front of an old farm building.  If you haven’t gotten the supply list and/or references, contact Mark or Suzanne.
November’s teacher will be Marilyn Brisbois, who will show us how to do watercolors on YUPO paper.  We’ve been asked to put the supply list out earlier, so her list is below. She will have some YUPO to buy if you don’t have your own.  I’ve checked, and Jerry’s does not currently have any.  Please let us know if you will be attending and need the paper so she can get a rough estimate of how much to buy.

Supplies for the YUPO class:
·      approx $2 for an 11x14 sheet of      YUPO paper
·      Palette knife
·      paper towels
·      watercolor paints
·      palette
·      your choice of brushes (at least one big brush)
·      2" small foam rollers with rounded edges (like at Home Depot) and a 4” roller if you want
·      light pencil

Special thanks go out to all those who helped with the Center for the Arts exhibit – either set-up, showing your work, making goodies/helping with the reception, or taking down.  Also, thanks go to those who shared their work at the symphony exhibit.  Both were well received and Harry even sold some of his photos.
Bobbie Ventura will be working on a scrapbook.  If you have images, please send them to her ASAP.
Tennessee Crossroads will be airing our episode on either Oct. 20 or 27.  We will let you know in advance which date they choose.  Also, it will be available on YouTube and on a disc that we can copy, so we can show all our adoring fans! (OK, so I really mean our friends and family.)
Murfreesboro First United Methodist Church is having Festival of Art and Crafts on Saturday, October 29, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.  If anyone would like to go in together to share a booth, contact Suzanne.
Wilson bank’s home office in Lebanon is having an October fest on Oct. 15 and 16.  They have a fine arts competition and a photography competition.  For more info:
Directories are here.  If you need one, see Suzanne.
We will NOT have kids art camp at Fall Break
The wine and cheese event has been postponed until May, when the city of Murfreesboro will be focusing on the arts.
We have introduced the idea of having officers elected every 2 years and staggering the terms.  This must be brought up for a vote by the general membership.  It was discussed at the meeting and decided that we need to vote on the official written change in the bylaws to change this.  It will be done at our October meeting.  We will also have 2 openings for recording secretary and corresponding secretary.  If you are interested, let a board member know.  (We are splitting up the job descriptions to include an additional computer person, due to the increased computer presence.)
The new Linebaugh Artist of the Month is Laura Dillard.  Congratulations Laura!
Debbie H. brought up the idea of a school mural project at Barfield Elementary.  If you have contacts with an art teacher at an area school, please let us know, so we might do a project with them, also.
Important dates to remember:
·   Oct. 3,10,&17 – Acrylic classes with Mark Jackson (7-9pm)
