Murfreesboro Art League Newsletter – March/April 2015
Last call for dues: If you haven’t paid your dues yet, please do so now. Otherwise, this might be your last newsletter. Ooooh!
THIS NEXT Monday: We will have our 5th Monday Eatin’ Meetin’ this coming week, so bring your goodies to munch on, some of your latest works to show off or have critiqued AND some spring cleaning supplies. It’s almost time for our spring grand opening, so we want the place to be ship-shape! Mon, March 30.
ROAD TRIP! Some of us are going on a road trip to Cartersville, Georgia (between Chattanooga and Atlanta) to see Clyde Aspevig at the Booth Western Art Museum! Admittance is $10 or $8 for seniors. You’ve GOT to see his mountain scenes! Contact Suzanne if you are interested in going!
Special Art Classes: We have several outside art teachers currently hosting classes in the gallery/classroom. Pam Hale is teaching on Thursday evenings, Mary Miller Veazie has classes on Friday morning, and Gayle Levee will be teaching oil, acrylic or water-mixable oil starting on Saturdays. Two new teachers will be joining our ranks: Susan Jones will start teaching acrylics on Wednesdays this month, and Carol Curtis will begin watercolor on May 20. Contact Phyllis Razo or Suzanne LeBeau if you are interested in taking any special classes.
April Classes:We have a special outside teacher for the month of April. “Dr. Ping” (Dr. Guanping Zheng of the Confucius Institute at MTSU) will be conducting a demonstration of Chinese style art on April 6, followed by classes in this classic traditional art form on April 13 and 20. Supplies are unknown at this time. Dr. Ping will let us know at the lecture/demonstration.
Thank you! to those who helped with the Mitchell Nielson night. We sold several paintings to help them raise funds. Other members donated paintings to help raise money for Habitat for Humanity and Church camp. Still other members helped with the Murfreesboro Symphony Orchestra’s kids’ day – painting faces and doing spin art. Thank you all for helping keep art alive and well in Middle Tennessee.
Pioneer Days:  On April 25, we will have our spring grand opening during Pioneer Days. We always need LOTS of volunteers that day! It’s a lot of fun, with music and booths. We’re asking for spring and summer themed art, too! Bring it on Apr 6, 13 or 20 or contact one of the board members for special times to bring it in.
Artists of the month: Our April Artists of the month will be Harry Polney over at the Linebaugh Library and Phyllis Razo at our own gallery.

Crawl the Mall: Phyllis, Suzanne, Bobbie, Claire, and maybe Jack have paintings that have been accepted into the “Crawl the Mall” event on April 11, 4-8 at the Mall at the Crossings in Antioch.
