Murfreesboro Art League Newsletter
August will be portrait painting with Carol Berning. She will run the classes in oils, but if you are more comfortable with acrylics, you may try that, although they do not blend quite the same. Week 1 will be finding the PLANES of the head and getting the values right (black and white only). Week 2 will be finishing that and watching a demonstration, and week 3 will be painting with a live model. Dates are Aug. 3, 10 and 17. See link here for what week 1 will be similar to: http://carolberning.com/works/1699090/painting-planes-of-the-head-in-black-and-white
In addition to ivory black and titanium white, recommended palette for the last night includes the following: alizarin crimson or quinacridone rose, cadmium red light, cadmium yellow light, yellow ochre, ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, burnt sienna, burnt umber, raw umber. In addition to your paints, bring at least two panels or canvases, no smaller than 14 x 11, preferably 16 x 12 or 20 x 16; paper towels; ODORLESS mineral spirits; paper towels, a bag for your dirty paper towels; and a palette for mixing paints. Do not tone your canvases prior to the class. YOU MUST REGISTER FOR THIS CLASS, SO PLEASE EMAIL SUZANNE AT mailto:email@example.com.

Uncle Dave Macon Days –
was a huge success. Thanks to everyone who helped. We got several new members and sold some items, too.
GREENWAY ART FESTIVAL:
We will be getting a booth at the Greenway Art Festival. Two other members will be getting tents next to ours, so we will have a little city! If you want to participate, let us know.
Gayle Levee is accepting reservations for her fall class. One of the methods she will cover is “pre-mixing paints so you don’t lose the spontaneity of plein air works. The 4 week class starts on Sept. 9 on Sat. mornings. Contact Gail at firstname.lastname@example.org for more info.
We installed our pieces this past Tuesday. Fourteen artists have a total of 47 paintings. The quality and variety is wonderful! The show will run from July 28 through August 28 from 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. The date for the reception is Thurs, Aug 13 from 4:30-6 (unless they vote it down this week, which I doubt.)
