Woman's Club of Murfreesboro Legacy Gathering invitation

Calling all Artists to A partnership of Artistic Legacy in

support of Historical Legacy

The Woman’s Club of Murfreesboro and is hosting a community fundraising event next month.  Our “Legacy Gathering” event will be held at The Alley on Main on Sunday, July 22, 2018, 4:00-7:00 p.m.

We are raising funds to benefit the continued preservation efforts of our historic house located at 221 East College Street, Murfreesboro.  The Woman’s Club will celebrate 102 years of civic and community service with this signature event.  Built in 1856, our beautiful Italianate home became the permanent home to the Club in 1916 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The Woman’s Club library contains over 3,500 volumes of rare, first edition, and out of print books that date back to 1887 when a group of its founding members organized and operated the first public lending library in Murfreesboro.

We would like to recognize your legacy in the field of art by inviting you to participate in our Legacy Gathering silent auction with a donation.  We intend to feature original items such as fiber art, glass, pottery, carvings, water colors, mixed media, metal art, sculpture, wood turning, jewelry, etc.  The Women’s Club of Murfreesboro is a 501(c) (3) Public Charity.  All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible.

If you would like to be included in the Legacy Gathering in support of the restoration of The Women’s Club, please contact Linda Dansby, Silent Auction Coordinator at the email or phone listed below.  We will make arrangements to pick up your item and provide you a donation receipt.  In order to allow time to prepare auction display, deadline for donations is July 12.

Thank you for your consideration of our request to help preserve this historical legacy.

Drawing Class Materials & Instructions

Drawing Classes at the Murfreesboro Art League Materials List and instructions

Drawing is the foundation of your artwork by using negative spacing, correct proportions and perspective, and learning to use tools such as plumb lines, straight edges and tools to measure distance and angles.

The materials you will need are as follows: a sketch pad (for pastel, charcoal or pencil); vine charcoal and/or charcoal pencils; a kneaded eraser and/or a 5mm soft rubber eraser for precise areas; assorted graphite pencils (or lead pencils); a pencil sharpener; a soft cloth or paper towels. You may want to bring a charcoal or pastel fixative to keep your drawings from smearing on your way home. Wax paper also works well to take your work home. Some paper will be available for purchase at the Gallery.

We will be drawing from life and there will be objects to draw at the Gallery. If you have something you would like to particularly draw, please bring that object with you. You are encouraged to work from life as much as possible and draw something every day, so bringing your own object allows you to continue working on the drawing at home. The more you draw, the more you learn to “See” and recognize the size of objects, angles and perspective, improve your ability to recognize negative space and values, and place objects for more interest on your medium of choice. Learning to see improves your other art work where everything is properly drawn and proportioned and values recognized.
